The Unified Green Party of Georgia expresses profound dismay and grave concern regarding Georgia Southern University's recent decision to dismantle essential programs, resources, and supportive signage dedicated to LGBTQIA+ students and staff. Between April 10 and 12, 2024, a significant portion of the university's initiatives aimed at affirming and aiding LGBTQIA+ individuals on campus were swiftly removed from both physical and digital platforms. This included the removal of vital services such as therapy groups, educational training for faculty and staff, medical support for transgender students, career guidance, LGBTQIA+ symbolism, and diversity statements from the university's online presence. Additionally, measures were taken to diminish the visibility of LGBTQIA+ students, with GSU pride flags swiftly removed from the campus bookstore shelves and adjustments made to forthcoming LGBTQIA+ programs.

The Unified Green Party of Georgia urgently calls upon university officials to promptly reverse this decision. As a state boasting one of the most sizable and diverse LGBTQIA+ populations in the Deep South, such actions can inflict profound harm on the health and well-being of all students, with repercussions extending far beyond the confines of the campus. This regressive move establishes a perilous precedent that threatens to erase our LGBTQIA+ community from public consciousness. It is imperative that the Unified Green Party of Georgia extends its unwavering support to our LGBTQIA+ community, steadfastly standing with them through this challenging chapter in their history.
